Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase-Related Protein 10 (CA10) belongs to the Carbonic Anhydrase family of Zinc Metalloenzymes. It is an acatalytic member of the alpha-carbonic anhydrase subgroup. CA10 expression is detected in the adult total brain and almost all parts of the central nervous system, but not in the fetal brain. CA10 catalyse the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide in various biological processes, which is fundamental to many processes such as respiration, renal tubular acidification and bone resorption. It is thought to play a role in the central nervous system, especially in brain development.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase 13 (CA13) belongs to the carbonic anhydrase family which can catalyses the reversible hydration recation of carbon dioxide. Carbonic anhydrases participate in many biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid. CA13 is a cytosolic enzyme and is widely expressed in human, such as thymus, small intestine, spleen, prostate, ovary, colon and testis, indicating that it may play a key role in several organs. CA13 is inhibited by acetazolamide.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase 3 (CA3) belongs to the Alpha-Carbonic Anhydrase family that encodes carbonic anhydrase isozymes. These carbonic anhydrases are a class of metalloenzymes that catalyse the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide and are differentially expressed in a number of cell types. The expression of the CA3 gene is strictly tissue specific and it is present at high levels in skeletal muscle with much lower levels found in cardiac and smooth muscle. CA3 is activated by proton donors such as imidazole and the dipeptide histidylhistidine. CA3 is inhibited by coumarins and sulfonamide derivatives such as acetazolamide.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase 1 (CA1) is a cytosolic enzyme, belonging to the alpha-carbonic anhydrase family. It is highly expressed in erythrocytes and acts as an early marker for erythroid differentiation. Carbonic anhydrase 1 plays a improtant role in many biological processes such as calcification, cellular respiration, bone resorption, acid-base balance. It is activated by imidazole, histamine, L-adrenaline, L- and D-histidine, and L- and D-phenylalanine. At the same time, It is inhibited by sulfonamide derivatives and coumarins. In addition, CA1 is a zinc metalloenzyme that has reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. It can hydrate cyanamide to urea.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase-Related Protein 11 (CA11) is a secreted protein member of the alpha-carbonic anhydrase family. Carbonic Anhydrases (CAs) are a large family of zinc metalloenzymes that catalyse the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They participate in a variety of biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid. CA11 is expressed abundantly in the brain with moderate expression also present in spinal cord and thyroid. CA11 may play a general role in the central nervous system.

Descripción: CA2 is a cytosolic enzyme with the highest activity among all known CAs. The carbonic anhydrases (ACs) form a family of enzymes that catalyze the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide and water to bicarbonate and protons (or vice versa), a reversible reaction that occurs relatively slowly in the absence of a catalyst. Mutations in the CA2 gene result in the CA II deficiency syndrome, an autosomal recessive disorder that produces osteopetrosis, renal tubular acidosis and cerebral calcification. This gene is mapped to 8q22.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase 4 (CA4) belongs to the alpha-carbonic anhydrase family. Alpha-carbonic anhydrase is a large family of zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. Carbonic anhydrase 4 is a glycosylphosphatidyl-inositol-anchored membrane isozyme expressed on the luminal surfaces of pulmonary (and certain other) capillaries and proximal renal tubules. Carbonic anhydrase 4 may stimulate the sodium/bicarbonate transporter activity of SLC4A4 that acts in pH homeostasis. It may have a role in inherited renal abnormalities of bicarbonate transport. Furthermore, Carbonic anhydrase 4 is essential for acid overload removal from the retina and retina epithelium and acid release in the choriocapillaris.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase 14 (CA14) belongs to the Alpha-Carbonic Anhydrase family. It is highly expressed in all parts of the central nervous system and lowly expressed in adult liver, heart, small intestine, colon, kidney, urinary bladder, and skeletal muscle. CA14 along with other Carbonic Anhydrases (CAs) participate in a variety of biological processes, including respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid. CA14 is predicted to be a type I membrane protein and catalyses the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase 8 (CA8) belongs to the alpha-carbonic anhydrase family. Alpha-carbonic anhydrase is a large family of zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. Because CA8 has some sequence similarity with other known carbonic anhydrase genes, it was firstly called as CA-related protein. Nevertheless, CA8 does not have a carbonic anhydrase catalytic activity. Defects in CA8 are the cause of cerebellar ataxia mental retardation and dysequilibrium syndrome type 3 (CMARQ3), which is a congenital cerebellar ataxia associated with dysarthia, quadrupedal gait and mild mental retardation.

Descripción: Carbonic Anhydrase 5B (CA5B) is a member of alpha-carbonic anhydrase family (CAs) that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. CAs is associated with many biological processes, including calcification, respiration, bone resorption, acid-base balance and the formation of aqueous humor. CA5B is highly expressed in heart, pancreas, kidney, placenta, lung, and skeletal muscle, but it is restricted to the liver. CA5B is localised in the mitochondria and shows the highest sequence similarity to the other mitochondrial CA, CA-VA. CA5B is inhibited by coumarins, sulfonamide derivatives such as acetazolamide (AZA), saccharin, and Foscarnet.
