Descripción: The ENTHD1 gene is conserved in chimpanzee, dog, cow, mouse and rat, and maps to human chromosome 22q13.1. Chromosome 22 contains over 500 genes and about 49 million bases. Being the second smallest human chromosome, 22 contains a surprising variety of interesting genes. Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Neurofibromatosis type 2 and autism are associated with chromosome 22. A schizophrenia susceptibility locus has been identified on chromosome 22 and studies show that 22q11 deletion symptoms include a high incidence of schizophrenia. Translocations between chromosomes 9 and 22 may lead to the formation of the Philadelphia Chromosome and the subsequent production of the novel fusion protein, BCR-Abl, a potent cell proliferation activator found in several types of leukemia.

Descripción: SYAP1 (synapse-associated protein 1) is a 352 amino acid protein that is ubiquitously expressed in adult tissues. SYAP1 contains one BSD domain which is a novel domain that is present in basal transcription factors, synapse-associated proteins and several hypothetical proteins. The BSD domain is characterized by three predicted alpha helices and by conserved tryptophan and phenylalanine residues, located at the C-terminus of the domain. The gene that encodes SYAP1 in humans is located on chromosome X. Chromosome X consists of about 153 million base pairs and nearly 1,000 genes. Color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy are well known X chromosome-linked conditions which affect males more frequently as males carry a single X chromosome.

Descripción: The HUNK (hormonally upregulated Neu-associated kinase) protein, also designated MAK-V in mouse, has been identified as a novel SNF1-related serine/threonine kinase. The human HUNK gene localizes to chromosome 21q22 and encodes a protein with nucleocytoplasmic distribution and localizes to the centrosome. Overexpression of the HUNK protein associates with approximately 50% of breast carcinomas, and may provide diagnostic-prognostic value as a molecular marker. Serine/threonine-protein kinase SNF1-like kinase 2 (SIK) phosphorylates Ser-794 of IRS1 in insulin-stimulated adipocytes, which may modulate the efficiency of insulin signal transduction. SIK is activated by phosphorylation on Thr-175 by STK11 in complex with STE20-related adapter-α and CAB39.

Descripción: COMMD or COMM is a new family of proteins with homology to MURR1, a multifunctional protein that inhibits NFkB. These proteins form multimeric complexes and were identified in a biochemical screen for MURR1-associated factors. The family is defined by the presence of a conserved and unique motif termed the COMM (copper metabolism gene MURR1) domain, which functions as an interface for protein-protein interactions. The proteins designated as COMMD or COMM domain containing 1-10 are extensively conserved in multicellular eukaryotic organisms and define a novel family of structural and functional homologs of MURR1. The prototype of this family, MURR1/COMMD1, suppresses NFkB not by affecting nuclear translocation or binding of NF-kappaB to cognate motifs; rather, it functions in the nucleus by affecting the association of NF-kappaB with chromatin.

Descripción: SND1 was originally characterized as a transcriptional coactivator for Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 2. It is a STAT6 TAD interacting protein containing staphylococcal nuclease (SN)-like domain and tudor domain. p100. The interaction is mediated by the TAD domain of STAT6 and the SN-like domain of SND1. SND1 associates with the large subunit of RNA polymerase II and is mediating interaction between STAT6 and RNA polymerase II. It was identified as a novel coactivator for STAT6 and suggest its functions as a bridging factor between STAT6 and the basal transcription machinery

Descripción: The adipocyte enhancer binding protein 1 (AEBP1) is a transcriptional repressor with carboxypeptidase (CP) activity. This protein binds to a regulatory sequence, adipocyte enhancer 1 (AE-1), located in the proximal promoter region of the adipose P2 (aP2) gene, which encodes the adipocyte fatty-acid binding protein. It is characterized as a member of the regulatory B-like CP family. This protein seems to be activated by a novel mechanism, whereby the direct binding of DNA enhances its protease activity. AEBP1 may play a role in differentiated vascular smooth muscle cells.

Descripción: Black-Gold II is a novel haloaurophosphate complex which localises myelin within the central nervous system. The Black Gold II Ready-to-Dilute (RTD) Staining Kit allows you to localise myelin, both individual fibres and tracts, along with the option of co-localising cell bodies via the Toluidine Blue counter stain. Black Gold II labelled myelinated fibres appear nearly black while the Toluidine Blue O labelled cellular Nissl bodies are blue under bright field illumination.
