Descripción: Spermatogenesis is the process by which male spermatogonia develop into mature spermatozoa. DAZ (deleted in azoospermia) are RNA-binding proteins that play an essential role in spermatogenesis. DAZ proteins influence the first stages of spermatogenesis and the maintenance of germ cell populations. DAZ proteins (DAZ1, DAZ2, DAZ3, DAZ4 and DAZ5) are encoded by separate genes on chromosome Y, each of which contain an AZFc domain in their coding region. DAZ proteins localize to the nucleus of spermatogonia, but relocate to the cytoplasm during meiosis. DAZ proteins contain an RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain that may regulate mRNA translation by binding to the 3?UTR. Deletions in the genes encoding DAZ proteins may cause azoospermia or oligospermia which can lead to male infertility. DAZ4 (deleted in azoospermia 4), also known as pDP1680 or pDP1681, is a 579 amino acid testis specific protein that contains nine DAZ-like domains and two RNA recognition motifs (RRM). DAZ4 exists as two alternatively spliced isoforms.

Descripción: Recognizes a phosphorylated protein of 228 kDa, identified as nuclear mitotic apparatus protein (NuMA). Its epitope is resistant to phosphatases. NuMA is intra-nuclear protein and present in nucleus during interphase. At the onset of mitosis, it redistributes from the nucleus to two centrosomal structures that later will become part of the mitotic spindle pole. After anaphase, the protein redistributes from the spindle polar region into reforming nucleus. NuMA is an essential protein during mitosis for the terminal phases of chromosome separation and/or nuclear reassembly. Recently a study shows that NuMA is cleaved to a 180 to 200 kDa during apoptosis. Chromosomal translocation of this gene with the RARA (retinoic acid receptor, alpha) gene on chromosome 17 has been detected in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia.

Serum β2 microglobulin levels are a reflection of cell turnover. Levels rise with fever, inflammation, and infection. Increased serum levels are also seen in B-cell malignancies and in renal failure and may indicate a worse prognosis for patients with early-stage Hodgkin's lymphoma.
